George E. Jackson went home to be with our Lord on December 5, 2022. He was born in Springfield, IL, to Ruth J. and George S. Jackson on May 26, 1955. George graduated from Southeast High School, Springfield, IL, where he participated in the Track and Field program. He went on to graduate from the Technical Institute in St. Louis, MO. He then relocated to Milwaukee, WI, to work at MASCO Corporation and live with his Aunt Francis.
During his adult life, George faced many challenges. When he returned to Springfield, he joined and was an active member in the local AA program. George renewed his membership in his childhood church home, Monroe Street Christian Church, where on most Sunday mornings he greeted attendees at the front door.
George was always up for a road trip with his traveling buddy, Aunt Della, whether they were going down to Texas or Mississippi, or just to a local family celebration. Every family event was enhanced by his signature dance moves and his infectious laughter. Just a word about George and food, he "loved" it and was always ready to give "a little something" toward the dinner. If by chance you were unaware that the LA Lakers and Kobe Bryant were the best in the NBA, he was more than willing to share the relevant facts that made it so.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Terri Jackson, and Michelle Jackson.
Those left to celebrate his life include his brother, Eugene "Thin Man" Jackson of Springfield, IL; sisters, Jennifer (Scott) Stephens of Rock Island, IL, and Vanessa (Dennis Streat) Jackson of Atlanta, GA; nephews, Damien Jackson of Rock Island, IL, and Adrian (Tayyaba) Jackson of Atlanta, GA; niece, Danielle (Antoine) Hayward of Charleston, SC; and a host of great nephews and nieces, cousins, aunts, and uncles.
Cremation was provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center.
