

George E. Schuerman, 81 of Springfield died at 6:30 a.m. Thursday, December 9, 2004 at Lewis Memorial Christian Village. George was born February 27, 1923 in Springfield, the son of Theodore J. and Freida Moessner Schuerman. He married Alinda Franz on September 18, 1944 by Alinda’s uncle: Bishop John B. Franz at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. She preceded him in death on April 1, 2003. George graduated from Lanphier High School where he was also inducted into the Hall of Fame on May 23, 1993 as a International Paint Chemist. He graduated from Springfield College in Illinois and St. Louis University. He was a WWII U.S. Navy Veteran serving with the Amphibious Forces in Okinawa and Japan. During his tour of duty George received the WWII Victory Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon and Asiatic Pacific 1 star. He was employed as Plant Manager for forty-one years at Kyanize Paint in Springfield. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Boy Scout Troop 31, past member of Kiwanis, Knights of Columbus Council 364 and Federated Society of Paint Technology He was also preceded in death by his parents; son, William J. Schuerman; sister, Eleanor Schuerman, OSU; two brothers, Bernard and Carl Schuerman. He is survived by two sons, Theodore J. (wife, Debbie) Schuerman of Chesterfield, MO and James F. (wife, Sherry) Schuerman of Chicago; daughter, Mariann (husband, Greg) Van Winkle of Brookfield, WI; daughter-in-law, DiAnne Schuerman of Springfield; twelve grandchildren; one great grandson; two sisters, Ruth (husband, Arthur) Reiners of Sun City, AZ; Margaret (husband, Robert) Kuznik of CA and several cousins. The family will receive friends from 4 – 7:00 p.m. Sunday, December 12, 2004 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield. The visitation will begin with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 13, 2004 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with Rev. Msgr. Kevin Vann celebrant. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery where the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County will conduct military honors.
