

He was born on September 24, 1933 in Cairo, IL, the son of the late Oscar and Mabel Bush Summers. He married Cora Richardson on Nov. 9, 1967 in Springfield.
Mr. Summers was a U.S. Army veteran serving in Korea as a paratrooper. He retired in 1978 from Eastext Packaging in Jacksonville, IL. He was a life-member of Amvets Post 100 in Jacksonville and loved working in his garden and landscaping his back yard with his family.
Besides his wife Cora, he is survived by 10 children: Michael West, Rebecca Millburg, Regina Thomas, James West, Jr., John West, Mark Summers, Larry Summers, Thomas Summers, Debbie Ray, and Julie Schliefert, 37 grandchildren, and 40 great-grandchildren, and 3 brothers, Tom (wife Toni) Pleshe of Los Angeles, CA, Mike Pleshe of CA, and Gerald Pleshe of CA. He was preceded in death by one child Connie Jo Summers.
Services are under the direction of Bisch and Son Funeral Home, 505 E. Allen, where visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 from 4 to 7 pm. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at 12:30 pm with Rev. Jim Austin officiating and burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
