Gerald “Gene” Clark, 89, of Springfield, formerly of Sherman, passed away on July 28, 2025 at Carlinville Rehab. He was born on July 27,1936 in Berlin, Illinois to Franklin Clark and Dora Edna Harlan. Gene married Eva law on December 24, 1954 in Williamsville and she preceded him in death in 2019.
Mr. Clark is survived by his niece April (Brian) Wozniak of Bradenton Florida, nephew Roland (Stacey) Law of Sherman, niece Lori (Steve) Underwood of Pawnee, niece Tami (Larry) McMillen of Tonkawa, Oklahoma, nephews Charlie Baker of Springfield, David (Holly) Clark of Pawnee, Thomas Clark of Chicago, Michael (Jill) Clark of Springfield and Douglas Cullers of St. Louis, MO., and two sister-in-laws; Susie Law of North Port, Florida and Kay Clark of Springfield, brother-in-law Gary Longcor of Charleston, Illinois, as well as several cousins, great nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by parents, brothers: Clifford "Kip" Clark, Paul "Dick" Clark, sisters; Norma Harlow & Sharon Cullers, brother-in-law Butch Law.
Gene was a US Army Veteran and he worked as a foreman with Precision Products Manufacturing. He built dirt late model stock cars in the 50's -70's and he also drove race cars himself in the 60's. Gene also loved horses and he kept horses at his barn in Sherman along with an array of other animals like llamas, chickens and even a peacock for a short while. He loved all his dogs too, most recent his yorkie Buzz. Gene traveled all over the country to Arabian horse shows and later in life he got involved in racing again with Riverton's Justin Allgaier. For almost a decade, Gene would accompany the Allgaier family all over the Midwest supporting Justin at the races and lending a helping hand in the race shop during the dirt late model years. He followed Justin all through NASCAR and rarely missed a race on tv.
A funeral service will be held at 12:30pm on Monday August 4, 2025 at Bisch and Son Funeral Home, 505 East Allen Street, with burial to follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 11:30am until the time of service Monday at Bisch and Son.
