

Gerald L. Pitt, 90, of Springfield, formerly of Chatham, passed away Monday, January 11, 2016, at Memorial Medical Center. He was currently a resident at Villa East in Sherman. Gerald was born on May 24, 1925 in Aurora, Nebraska to the late Ursel and Frances Smith Pitt. He married R. Jean Olson on June 26, 1948; she preceded him in death on April 29, 2003. One sister, Frances Ilias, also preceded him in death. Gerald served his country in the Navy during WWII and the Korean War. The Interveterans� Burial Detail of Sangamon County will conduct military honors at 11:45am, Saturday, January 16, at Staab Polk Memorial Home, Chatham. Mr. Pitt was the Marketing Director for the Illinois Egg Market Development Council from 1974-1987. He will be greatly missed by his daughters, Melinda (Mark) Kaye of Springfield and Stephanie (Bradley) Brakebill of Bloomington; grandchildren, Kjerstine (Kelly) Mass of Bloomington, Jennie (Robert) VanDeVoorde of Washington, IL and David Kaye of Springfield; great grandchildren, Jessica Collins-Appel, Michael VanDeVoorde and Natalie VanDeVoorde; siblings, Adelaide Miller of Muscatine, IA, John (Marytha) Pitt of Ames, IA; several nephews and cousins. Visitation and Funeral: His family will greet friends from noon until the time of the funeral service at 1pm, Saturday, January 16, at Staab Polk Memorial Home, 8855 State Rt. 4, Chatham, IL, 62629, with William McKenzie officiating.
