

Geraldine "Gerrie" Marinelli, 90, of Springfield, died at 10:54 a.m. on Friday, August 2, 2013 at St. John's Hospital. Geraldine was born on June 3, 1923 in Virginia, IL, the daughter of Lee and Ruth Ellen Simmons Way. She married Joseph Marinelli, Sr. and he preceded her in death. Geraldine worked for Paris Cleaners for ten years before being employed with the State of Illinois, Secretary of State for fifteen years; retiring in 1988. She was previously a member of Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception and most recently a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church and the St. Agnes Altar and Rosary Society. She was also a member of P.O.L.K. of A. and volunteered at the Senior Center. She loved to dance the polka, play canasta, embroider, and can and make jellies and preserves. She was also preceded in death by her parents; son, Joey Marinelli, Jr.; three brothers, Lyle Way, Kenneth "Kenny" Way, and Ruel "Bud" Way; and five sisters, Ruth "Babe" Way, Margaret Huff, Verna Jean Hoagland, Ethel Lee Fry, and Dorothy Sudeth. She is survived by her two daughters, Wanda (husband, Richard) Goyne of Sherman and Karen (husband, Craig) Oglesby of Williamsville; nine grandchildren, Tammy (husband, David) Wilder, Laurie (husband, Chuck) Koehne, Deana (husband, Kurt) Devore, Matthew Oglesby, Bob (wife, Kathy) Oglesby, Jenny Oglesby, Beth (husband, Richard) Peters, Renee (husband, Shaun) Handlin, and Mike Goyne; twenty-seven great-grandchildren, Chuckie, Brandon, Mason, Emily, Ashley, Dustin, Dewey, Megan, Aletha, Isabella, Kaden, Lexi, Alyssa, Bryce, Zephen, Zane, Zoey, Zander, Austin, Samantha, Dillon, Dalton, Jordan, Brandon, Brian, Monica, and Katie; three great-great-grandchildren, Broghan, Jaycee, and Addyson; sister, Betty Jo Merritt of Kirksville, MO; sister-in-law, Imogene Way of Petersburg; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Monday, August 5, 2013 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Funeral Ceremony: 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Jallas officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
