

Gladys Marie Kunz, 95, of Springfield, died at 2:28 a.m. on Sunday, January 25, 2015 at St. John's Hospital. Gladys was born June 5, 1919 in Nokomis, the daughter of Eugene and Olivia Whitmore Pieper. She married Fred W. "June" Kunz, Jr. on December 30, 1939 at St. Louis Church in Nokomis; he preceded her in death in 1993. Gladys was a graduate of Nokomis St. Louis Church High School. She worked for Sangamo Electric and was a florist for 45 years. She was a past president of AMVETS Post 61 and 257, as well as Women's Auxiliary. She had been a member of several bowling leagues and enjoyed dancing with her husband, fishing, flowers, and loved birds and nature. She was also preceded in death by her parents; three brothers; three sisters; and one grandson, Billy Duhadway. She is survived by two sons, Mike Kunz (companion, Judy Hessler) of Springfield and Mark Kunz of New Berlin; two daughters, Marlin (husband, Charles) Vitale of Littleton, CO and Carol (husband, Robert) Robbins of Collinsville; 19 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and one daughter-in-law, Sue Ellen Kunz of Springfield. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 5:00-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Funeral Ceremony: 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 29, 2015 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
