Greg Thomas

Greg Thomas, 63, passed away Nov. 2, 2016, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. He was born Oct. 25, 1953, in Taylorville, the son of Rodney and Sally Hartwig Thomas. He was a 1972 graduate of Edinburg High School. He married his life-long soul mate, Denise Cole Thomas, on June 7, 1974, in Springfield, Ill. He was preceded in death by his mother, Sally Hartwig Thomas, and a brother, Dave Thomas. Surviving are his wife, Denise; two sons, Tony (Taylor) Thomas, and Brent (Christine) Thomas; daughter, Nikki (John) Ruot, all of New Berlin, Ill.; father, Rodney Thomas of Deep Run, N.C.; brother, Kerry (Linda) Thomas of Elliott, Ill.; sister, Nancy (Jim) Miller of Deep Run, N.C.; eight grandchildren: Kobe, Lily, Cash, Daisy, Bella, Brody, Jack and Harper, all of New Berlin, Ill.; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Greg was well-known in the community, and he never met a stranger. Greg enjoyed spending free time hunting, golfing, watching old Westerns, traveling, and, most of all, he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. Greg worked for many years in sales, a job that was well-suited for his outgoing and friendly personality. He was most currently employed at Systemax in Springfield, Ill., previously working at his own business, Thomas Printing & Thomas Tees, and Informative Systems. Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center following ceremonies. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:45 a.m. on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at Berlin Christian Church, 2580 S. Wake Rd., New Berlin. Funeral Ceremony: 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at Berlin Christian Church with Rev. Warren Brosi officiating.
