

Hamlin Bryan Hurst, 92, of Springfield, died Sunday, February 10, 2008 at Memorial Medical Center. Hamlin was born June 27, 1915 in Maywood, MO, the son of Bryan and Ida Belle Fletcher Hurst. He married Doris Hirsch on June 9, 1947 in Germany, they later divorced. Hamlin began his life as a farmer until he enlisted in the Army during World War II. He served in the European Theater participating as a field hospital medic in the D-Day invasion at Utah Beach and the Battle of the Bulge in Belgium. He was a residential homebuilder in Springfield for 35 years, building many homes, duplexes, condominiums and apartment buildings. Ham enjoyed gardening, traveling the world, following baseball, discussing politics and entertaining around his swimming pool. He was liked by all and will be missed by many. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters: Virginia, Mildred, and Lora Mae and two grandchildren: Tracy and Alison Hurst. He is survived by three sons: Roger (wife, Sue) Hurst, Gregory (wife, Ann) Hurst and Bruce Hurst all of Springfield; three grandchildren: Bryan (wife, Laurie) Hurst, Gregory Hurst and Hilary Hurst; and two great-grandchildren: Skyler and Kendall Hurst. Cremation accorded by the Butler Cremation Tribute Center. Family will receive friends for a memorial gathering from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 16, 2008 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield.
