

Harold K. Murphy, 86, died on Good Friday, April 2, 2010 at his home in Farmersville at 8:00 a.m. Harold was born November 2, 1923 in Harvel, IL to John and Marie Langen Murphy. He married Virginia Jordan on February 2, 1947 at St. Mary’s Church in Farmersville by Msgr. Timothy Moloney. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Monica Ann and three brothers, Roy, Carl and Gerald Murphy. Mr. Murphy was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Farmersville, K of C Council #1152, 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Bishop McNicholas Assembly, Farmersville-Waggoner American Legion Post 701, DAV of Springfield, Moose Lodge #1634 and Montgomery County Farm Bureau. Harold was a proud veteran of WWII and served from 1942 until 1944 under General Patton in the famed Red Diamond army Division. He earned the Purple Heart and Bronze Star in the European Theatre Operation. Harold farmed in the Farmersville area for most of his life. He is survived by his wife, Virginia of Farmersville; three sons, Thomas of Virden, Harlan of Farmersville and Allen (Kathy) of Springfield; two daughters, Kathleen (Glenn) Rovey and Mary Jane (Dean) Fuchs of Farmersville; twelve grandchildren, Elaine Wagner, Derek and Zachary Rovey, Ryan and Rory Murphy, Shannon Swierczek, Jerrod and Ashton Fuchs, Adam and Anne Murphy, Amanda Ciaccio and Ethan Murphy; six great grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Maguire of Brewster, NY and two brothers, John E. Murphy of Farmersville and James of Lethridge, Alberta Canada . Visitation will be Monday, April 5, 2010 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Homes in Springfield. A prayer service will be held at 5:00 p.m. The Knights of Columbus 4th Degree Bishop McNicholas Assembly will post an honor guard from 6:00 p.m. until the end of the visitation. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, April 6, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church 310 Nobbe St., Farmersville with Rev. Jeffrey Long, celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Martin Cemetery in Farmersville with military honors.
