

Harry was born on March 31, 1942, in Oak Park, IL, the son of Harry and Mary (Guzzardi) Stirmell, Sr. He married Mary Anne Long on June 18, 1988, at Christ the King Church in Springfield.
Harry grew up in the Chicagoland area and graduated from Arlington High School. His work with the State of Illinois brought him to Springfield in 1989, where he and Mary Anne would raise their family. Harry retired from the Department of Financial and Professional Regulation as Title Insurance Regulator for the State of Illinois. He was also a longtime trustee for the Village of Jerome and served as Village President for over a decade. Harry was an active member at Christ the King Church, serving as an usher and on the funeral luncheon committee. In his younger years, he enjoyed golfing and bowling. Harry was giving, kind, and always ready to hand out smarties or dog treats whenever he would encounter friends and neighbors. Most importantly, Harry loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Chris Stirmell.
Harry is survived by his wife, Mary Anne of Springfield; his children, Russell (Dione) Stirmell of South Elgin, Robyn (Mark) Cornelissen of Hoffman Estates, Bradley Stirmell of Chatham, Heidi (Kyle) French of Chicago, and Steven Stirmell of Hermitage, TN; eight grandchildren, Brittany and Taylor Stirmell, Danielle and Jacklyn Elliott, Lauren (John) Meilahn, Cody Schiferl, Madelyn Stirmell, and Mason French; sister, Gloria (Al) Ewert of Belleville, three nieces and nephews, several great nieces and nephews, and many cousins.
Visitation and Funeral Mass: Family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday, December 28, 2022, at Christ the King Parish, 1930 Barberry, Springfield, IL. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. with the Very Rev. Chris House, celebrant.
Burial will follow at Rochester Cemetery.
