

Hazel Edna Maurer, 85, of Springfield, formerly of Decatur, IL, Cerro Gordo, IL and Phoenix, AZ, died at 7:58 a.m. on Wednesday, May 10, 2006 at Lewis Memorial Christian Village. Hazel was born on January 22, 1921 in Iowa, the daughter of Edgar Frank and Lillie Florence O’Brien Rucker. She married Raymond McClure in 1938. She then married Ora Glen Maurer on January 11, 1945, he preceded her in death. Hazel worked at the Illiopolis Arms Plant during WW II. After graduating from the Decatur School of Nursing, she worked as an L.P.N in Decatur. She was past President of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 117 in Cerro Gordo. She enjoyed going to the Senior Center of Springfield to play cards with her friends. She loved to paint and go fishing with her grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents; one son: Lonnie Glen Maurer; five brothers: James, Russell, Brian, Lee and Willard Rucker and three sisters: Mary Rucker Jones, Pearl Rucker Grubb, and Grace Rucker Vulgamott. She is survived by two sons: Michael Ray (wife, Charlene) McClure Maurer of Mt. Zion and Dana Duane (wife, Grace) Maurer of Springfield; eight grandchildren: Rhonda Choate, Alan, John, Jason, and Jeremy Maurer, Dina Evans, Daniel and Samantha Maurer; several great-grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter and numerous nieces and nephews. Cremation will be accorded by the Cremation Tribute Center, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Private Family Memorial Ceremonies will be held on Saturday, May 13, 2006. Burial will be at a later date in Valley of the Sun Cemetery in Chandler, AZ. The family of Hazel Edna Maurer is being served by Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield.
