

Helen “Joan” Goulden, 72, of Springfield, passed away on Wednesday, September 5, at St. John's Hospital, with her family at her side. Joan was born on September 12, 1939 in Gary, IN the daughter of William and Maude "Dolly" (Hornback) Finnerty. She married Vernon Goulden on February 9, 1956. Joan enjoyed all of her grandchildren and her great grand-daughter, was a loving wife,and mother, enjoyed decorating her house for holidays, and reading. Joan “Goldie” worked at St. John's Hospital for 44 years until she retired in 2004. She also co-owned "Vern’s Auto Repair." She enjoyed watching her family race for many years and she and Vern were very active members of the Cars Club. Joan's survivors include her husband of 56 years Vern, her children; Steven (Karen) Goulden, Julie (Dan) Donaldson, and Jan (Ron) Robeen, grandchildren; Jennifer (Eric Lewey), Matthew (Jeri Trueblood), Jacob, Taylor, Ashley, Laura (Justin Holderread), Hannah, Ben, and Kiyah, great-granddaughter Alivia, her sister Dee Dee Bryan, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and 2 sisters; Pearl Nickey, and Fran Ballogg. Visitation will be held on Monday, September 10, from 4-7 pm at Bisch & Son Funeral Home 505 E Allen St Springfield IL 62703. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 11, at 10 am at the funeral home, with Rev. Vaughn Beeman conducting the services. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
