

He was born December 21, 1933, in Springfield, IL, the son of Everette J. and Jessie (Antel) Rush. Herbert married Donna J. Reynolds on June 2, 1956, in Springfield.
Herbert graduated from Lanphier High School in 1952. He joined the U.S. Army and served in the Korean War from 1953-1955. Herbert retired from Central Management Services with the State of Illinois after 38 years of service. He was the oldest member of the Blue Ridge Club in Springfield, and was a member of Elliott Avenue Church for over 30 years. Herbert enjoyed playing softball in his younger years, boating, fishing, hunting, and yard work. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren, and was always watching their sporting events.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Richard and Everett Rush.
Herbert is survived by his wife, Donna; children, Herbert (Carolyn) Rush, Jr. of Petersburg, Robert (Marianne) Rush of Pleasant Plains, and Judy (Jim) Pohl of Petersburg; and grandchildren, Katie (Colt) McLeod, of Decatur, Kellie (Alec) White, of Freeburg, Steven Rush, of Springfield, Colton (Taylor) Pohl, of Ashland, and Jenny (Jon) Shoup, of Pleasant Plains; and four great-grandchildren, Brody McLeod, Hallie McLeod, Jackson White, and Lainey Shoup.
A private burial will take place at Camp Butler National Cemetery with Pastor Mark Estrop officiating. Military honors will be provided.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
