Herman Nagel, Jr.

Herman was born on August 4, 1929 in Highland, IL, the son of Herman Joseph and Melba Clayton Nagel. He married Evelyn Mayberry Wright on December 22, 1956 and she survives. Also surviving are his children, Ed (Lisa) Nagel, Kathy Hart, Karen (special friend, Gene Frank) Oschwald, Pam (Mark) Carbiener, and Lisa (Bill) Henry; grandchildren, Sara (Ray) Pena, Kayla (special friend, Rodney Taylor) Carbiener, Emily (special friend, Andrew Rapp) Carbiener, Jacob (Jenna) Henry, Morgan (fiancé, Forrest Gross) Oschwald, and Daniel Nagel; 7 great-grandchildren; brother, Charles (Renee) Nagel; sisters, Ruth Sheppard, Donna (Harry) Long, and Judy Long; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Those preceding him in death include his mother and father; brothers, Kenneth, Larry (and his wife, Rhonda), and Russell Nagel; and sisters, Verla Adams, Marilyn Mitchell, and Linda Nagel.

Herman graduated from Girard High School in 1948 and enlisted in the United States Army in January of 1949, serving in Germany during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged in August of 1952. He was a member and Past Commander of the American Legion Post 743 later transferring to Post 759 in Chatham.

Herman was a mechanic in New Berlin for over 30 years working for Stapleton Ford, Hermes Chevrolet and Pennell Auto Sales and owning his own shop for over 10 years. After retiring from being a mechanic he worked for Paul Brehm and Don Kloppe on their farms and for Curran Township with Howard Hayes.

Herman was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. He loved to fish and visiting with his family.

A private family graveside ceremony with military rites will be held at Camp Butler National Cemetery. Additional ceremonies will be planned at a later date.
