

Irene M. Willis, 90, of Springfield, died at 9:11 p.m. on Tuesday, September 11, 2018, at Heritage Health. Irene was born March 29, 1928, in Springfield, the daughter of Elwood and Bessie Swartz Jamerson. She married Norman Willis, Sr. on March 8, 1947, in Belleville, IL. He preceded her in death on May 18, 2014. Irene was a graduate of Lincoln High School. She worked as an elevator operator at Herndons Department Store in Springfield, and at Park Sherman manufacturing for 7 years. She then went to work as one of the first meter maids for the Springfield Police Department and retired after 17 years of service. Irene was a member of St. Katherine Drexel Catholic Church. She enjoyed collecting porcelain dolls and spending time with her family. Irene was also preceded in death by her parents; brother, Carl Jamerson; step-brother, Anthony Cooper; step-father, Valley Cooper; and grandson, Norman A. Willis. She is survived by her son, Norman, Jr. (Carol) of Dawson; grandchildren, Anthony (Linda Stephenson) Willis and Marcie Willis of Springfield; one great-grandson; step-sisters, Ruth Ann and Cologne of Los Angeles, CA; her beloved family dog, Joe; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Cremation was accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies. Memorial Ceremony: 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 18, 2018, at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery with a graveside service. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Katherine Drexel Catholic Church, 722 S. 12th Street, Springfield, IL 62703.
