

James Russell Butler, 78, of Springfield passed away at 9:12 a.m. Saturday, July 27, 2002 at St. John’s Hospice. James was born May 21, 1924 the son of Thomas Edgar and Bertha Carr Butler in Nilwood, IL. He married Mary Lou Tucker November 18, 1944 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Girard, IL. Mr. Butler had been employed as a test engineer for Fiat-Allis. He was a member of the St. Cabrini Parish, Knights of Columbus council #4175, Fiat-Allis Retirees, and Mallwalkers Coffee Crew. He was preceded in death by his parents and six siblings. He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou of Springfield; one son: James (wife, Kim) Butler of Sherman; three daughters: Mary Ann (husband, John) Lough of Elm Grove, WI, Rose Butler of Buffalo, IL, Judith (husband, Robert) Gilbert of Little Compton, RI; seven grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation will be held at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home from 5-7:00 p.m. Monday, July 29, 2002 with a wake service at 5:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 30, 2002 at St. Cabrini Catholic Church with the Reverend Rodney Schwartz celebrant. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to St. John’s Hospice, 800 E.
