

James Curt Fitzgerald, 72, of Springfield, died at 1:34 p.m. on Friday, May 26, 2006 at his residence. James was born March 28, 1934 in Springfield, the son of Marvel Edward and Margaret Josephine Dirksen Fitzgerald. Mr. Fitzgerald was a 1952 graduate of Cathedral Boys High School. He served in the US Army and was a retired member of the IL Air National Guard. He was employed by Illinois Bell for 33 years until his retirement. James was a member of the VFW and American Legion Post #32 . He was also a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church. Mr. Fitzgerald was a model train enthusiast all of his life. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by one sister: Rosemarie “Bunny” (husband, Thomas) Hamilton of Springfield, two brothers: John “Joe” (wife, Mary) Fitzgerald of Springfield and Michael (wife, Maureen) Fitzgerald of Minneapolis, MN; several nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces, great nephews and cousins. He is also survived by Heidi; his faithful dog and companion. Family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 30th, 2006 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 31, 2006 at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 245 N. Amos Ave., Springfield, with Rev. Robert Jallas celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery where the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County will perform military honors.
