

He was born in Chicago on August 14, 1940, the son of Martin Aloysius and Florence (McKenzie) Flatley.
Jim graduated from Leo High School, and then earned his master’s degree from Chicago Teachers College in 1967. He taught various grades in elementary school before retiring from Gary Elementary School in Chicago in 1994. He later moved to Springfield in 2004. Jim cherished the relationships he built throughout his life. His circle of friends was vast and diverse, ranging from his large extended family to lifelong friends from his teaching career to members of his community, including his many friends from the YMCA, local churches, and favorite hangouts. He was a dedicated Chicago sports fan, including the Bears, the Blackhawks, and especially the White Sox. We will miss Uncle Jim’s quirky personality and never-ending stories about all the people he knew.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his beloved sister, Mary Ann Corrigan.
Jim is survived by his nephews, Ryan (Tricia) Corrigan of Schaumburg and Patrick Corrigan of Springfield; nieces, Megan (Patrick) Allen of Sherman and Molly (Steven) Shipe of St. Joseph, MI; and brother-in-law, Carl (Lou Ann) Corrigan of Springfield, as well as great-nieces and nephews, Conor, Briella, Torin, Lilah, Jett, Emma, and Skylar.
Visitation and Funeral Ceremony: Family will receive friends at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, February 17, 2025, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 1725 S. Walnut St., Springfield. Funeral Ceremony will follow at 11:30 a.m. with Father Michael Friedel officiating.
Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
