

James M. "Scoop" Lewis, 87, of Springfield, died at 2:08 p.m. on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at Memorial Medical Center. Jim was born July 21, 1930 in Springfield, the son of Thomas M. and Mary Murrell Lewis. Jim was employed as an inspector with Fiat Allis for 30 years until his retirement in 1985. After retirement, he worked at Bunn Golf Course in the Pro Shop. Jim was a family man and enjoyed dinners on Friday nights with his sisters. He loved playing cards, golfing, and having breakfast with his buddies. Jim was an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan and loved going to watch his great-great nephew, Camren, play in all of his sporting events. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Thomas M. Lewis, Jr.; nephew, Christopher Lee Bigard; and brother-in-law, Nick Miller. He is survived by his sisters, Jean Miller of Chatham and Patricia Taft of Springfield; four nieces, Vicki (husband, Danny) Runkel, Chaun (husband, Steve) Ausmus, Pamela Bigard and Susan (Angie) Gum-Miller; nephews, Mark (wife, Tammy) Miller and Bob (wife, Nancy) Taft; ten great-nieces and nephews; and several great-great-nieces and nephews and cousins. Visitation and Funeral Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Funeral Ceremony will follow at 10:30 a.m. with Celebrant Judy Woerner officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery with military honors provided by the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County.
