

James “Jim” Lomelino, 81, of Springfield, passed away on November 20, 2025 at his residence. He was born on January 31, 1944 in Carlinville, Illinois to Lawrence Lomelino and Violet Jackson . He married Geraldine Hohimer and she preceded him in death on March 30, 2011.
Jim was raised in Modesto, Illinois. He played basketball in high school where he was voted MVP of his team. He had three siblings: Loretta, Daryl and Earl and four step siblings. He is survived by his daughter Patricia Lomelino (Shane Horner), four grandchildren: Kayla (Ethan) States of Lincoln, IL, Brandon (Erika) Horner of Springfield, IL, Alex Horner of Springfield, IL, and Anakin (Bella) Horner of Springfield, IL, and 5 great grandchildren Emma and Mollie States, Roman Parker, Beckham Horner and Harper Horner.
Mr. Lomelino was a retired construction worker of 32 years who then continued membership of Local Laborers 477 for 54 years where he received a his 50 year gold card with Laborers International Union. He helped lead many of the construction sites throughout Springfield.
He enjoyed spending time with his friends at Deer Park (Lincoln Family Trails) Campground. Jim would spend time camping and having coffee with his friends. His yard and grandchildren were his pride and joy. It wasn’t uncommon for him to mow three times a week. Jim enjoyed fishing,watching and talking about football, basketball and NASCAR. He was known for being a kind person who was willing to help anybody he could.
Jim was a US Army Veteran who served in Vietnam in the Infantry and he helped direct landing aircraft. While in the Military he received a Vietnam Service Medal with Bronze Service Star, a National Defense Service Medal, a Bronze Star Medal with “V,” A Combat Infantryman Badge, Air Medal and a Vietnam Campaign Medal.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30am on Friday December 5, 2025 at Bisch and Son Funeral Home, 505 East Allen Street, Springfield, IL with burial to follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
