

James Milton Monroe, born April 23, 1961 in Urbana, to Donnie and Barbara Monroe, walked through the gates of heaven to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 30, 2015. James was an Army veteran and belonged to the American Legion Post #32. He was a member of Elliott Avenue Baptist Church. He was such an example of sincere love for others. As a member of the Cool Cruisers and Route 66 Cruisers car clubs, he loved working on his car and participating in car shows. James was an avid outdoorsman. He loved hunting, fishing, and camping. He especially loved the time he spent in Alaska. James will be sadly missed by his parents, Donnie and Barbara Monroe of Springfield; two brothers, John (Melissa) Monroe and LeRoy Monroe, both of Springfield; three sisters, JoEtta (Doug) Barto of Winnemucca, NV, Judith (Harold) Bly of Girard, and Georgia (Steve) Edge of Riverton; several nephews, nieces, and cousins; and his wonderful companion and friend, Shirley Kafka. Visitation and Funeral Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral ceremony at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at Elliott Avenue Baptist Church, 501 W. Elliott Ave., Springfield with Rev. Cana Roth officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to: Elliott Avenue Baptist Church, 501 W.
