James A. Jim Peters

Jim was born November 14, 1946 in Springfield, the son of James A. and Eloise Danner Peters, Sr. He married Gaynell W. Walgren on December 30, 1972 in Springfield.

Jim graduated from Springfield High School in 1964 and attended Benedictine College before joining the service. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. After leaving the Navy, he attended Lincoln Land Community College. He was employed as a manager in the Frozen Food and Dairy departments for Jewel Foods until his retirement after 30 years of service. Jim enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and spending time with his family. Since his retirement, he has enjoyed summers in Northern Minnesota at their cabin on beautiful Deer Lake.

He was preceded in death by his father, James A. Peters, Sr.; sister, Susan Lasota; mother and father-in-law, John and Eunice Walgren; and brother-in-law, Floyd Walgren.

He is survived by his wife, Gaynell “Gay” W. Peters of Springfield; mother, Eloise Peters of Las Vegas, NV; one uncle; three nieces; three nephews; four great-nieces; six great-nephews, and several cousins.

Visitation: Family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:15 a.m. on Friday, June 10, 2016 at Boardman-Smith Funeral Home, 800 S. Grand Ave. West, Springfield.

Funeral Ceremony: 11:30 a.m. on Friday, June 10, 2016 at Boardman-Smith Funeral Home with The Rev. Dr. Blythe Denham Kieffer officiating.

Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
