Jane G. Bliss

Jane G. Bliss, 79, of Springfield, passed away at 6:44 p.m. on Sunday, June 10, 2018 at Memorial Hospice at Heritage Health. Jane was born April 21, 1939 in Dubuque, IA, the daughter of Gerald and Bertha Andresen McAleece. She married Richard Bliss on January 2, 1965 in Dubuque, IA; he preceded her in death on August 3, 2013. Jane was a graduate of Mercy School of Nursing in Dubuque, Iowa. She attended and worked at Little Flower Catholic School for more than 30 years due to her love of the children. She knew how to make people feel comfortable, and she was always taking care of people as she was always on the move. Jane was a loving person who was proud and protective of her family. Jane was also preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Mary Fuhrman. She is survived by her sons, Richard (Laura) Bliss, Jr. of Ely, IA, Timothy (Joanna) Bliss of Bethesda, MD, Michael Bliss of Springfield, and Steven Bliss of St. Louis, MO; daughters, Geralyn Bliss of Springfield and Catherine (Michael) Wenzel of Buffalo Grove, IL; six grandchildren, Josephine and Alex Bliss, Andrew Bliss, and David, Christopher, and Natalie Wenzel; and siblings, Anne Boras of Glen Elyn, IL, Joan Chavez, Beth (Gene) Mellentine, and Laura (Tom) Hoch, all of Denver, CO, Gerald (Patty) McAleece of Aiken, SC, and Tim (Kaye) McAleece of Grand Rapids, MI. Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies. Memorial Gathering: Family will receive friends from 4:00 to 5:15 p.m. on Friday, August 3, 2018 at Church of the Little Flower, 800 Stevenson Drive, Springfield. Memorial Mass: 5:30 p.m. on Friday, August 3, 2018 at Church of the Little Flower, with Fr. Charles Edwards, celebrant. Burial will be held at a later date in Dubuque, IA.
