Janice Kay Walker

Janice was born on October 21, 1940, in Vandalia, the daughter of Lester Woodrow and Bertha Gladys (Banning) Higgins. She married Roger A. Walker on August 1, 1959, in Decatur and he preceded her in death on October 3, 2020.

Janice grew up in the Decatur area and attended Decatur Lakeview High School. She moved to the Rochester area in the 1960s with her husband and children and then to Springfield in 1994. Janice was a member of the Missouri Synod Lutheran Church. She enjoyed decorating, reading, shopping, and working in her flower garden. Janice also enjoyed traveling with her husband.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, and brother, David Higgins.

Janice is survived by her son, Steven A. Walker of Mattoon; daughter, Lisa (Mike) Kincaid of Buffalo; grandchildren, Mitchell (Natasha) Walker of Springfield, Ashley (Matt) Shatkus of Wall, NJ, Bradley (Alexis) Kincaid of San Diego, CA, and Todd (Tiffany) Kincaid of Sherman; great-grandchildren, Madison, Samuel, and Scarlett Shatkus, Parker and Amelia Kincaid, Tanner, Haddie, and Haley Kincaid, and Levi Walker; sister, Beverly (John) Barber of Harristown and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Cremation will be provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center.

Graveside Ceremony: 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 17, 2021, at Camp Butler National Cemetery, 5063 Camp Butler Rd., Springfield, with Celebrant Judy Woerner officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis, TN 38105.
