

Jean Marie Powers, 87, of Springfield, died at 2:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at St. John's Hospital. Jean Marie was born December 19, 1925 in Peoria, the daughter of T.R. and Emma Brush Cooper. She married Carl Powers on April 24, 1965 in Jacksonville. Jean Marie was a 1943 graduate of Jacksonville High School and a 1945 graduate of Brown's Business College. She retired in 1988 as a school secretary at Matheny Elementary School for Springfield School District. She was a member of the Alpha Iota Sorority and belonged to Woodside Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Carl Powers of Springfield; one son, Ted J. (wife, Becci) Powers of Homer; three step-children, Karleen (husband, Tom) Murphy, Cheryl Murphy, and Mike (wife, Leighann) Powers, all of Springfield; four grandchildren, Joe Murphy, Matt Powers, Quinn Powers, and Katie Powers; two great-grandchildren, Max Powers and Sully Powers; and one cousin, Phyllis W. Tabor of California, who was like a sister. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 10:30 11:30 a.m. on Friday, April 5, 2013 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield.
