She was born on November 9,1926, in Boston, England. Her parents, Horace Simpson and Elsie Elizabeth Thacker Simpson, both preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Rita Ball, Edna Johnston, and Ruth Sculthrope, and brother, Horace Simpson.
Jean came to the United States on December 11, 1948, on the HMHS Britannic and She later became a United States citizen. Jean was employed by Allis Chalmers of Springfield, later known as Fiat Allis, in the bookkeeping department. She was very involved with the Rebekah’s Assembly, the women’s auxiliary of IOOF. Rebekah’s mission is to promote love, charity and tolerance and to bring happiness to others. Jean, along with her good friend, Elizabeth Nelch, worked tirelessly to fulfill this mission. Jean served in all areas of leadership of Rebekah’s and was very involved in holiday and event planning. She also loved to travel and returned home many times.
She is survived by her sister, Enid Cunnington of Boston, England; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Graveside Services were held on December 5, 2025, at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
