Jeanette Stella "Sis" Schumer

Jeanette was born on June 4, 1933 in Springfield, the daughter of Charles Alvin and Mary Elizabeth (Trello) Stevens. She married David A. Schumer on October 2, 1954; he preceded her in death on August 23, 1995.

Jeanette was a lifelong resident of Springfield and was a graduate of Ursuline Academy. In high school she was employed with St. John’s Hospital prior to becoming a homemaker to focus on raising her children. She then began working at Horace Mann and retired from there after many years of service. Jeanette enjoyed traveling and Sunday drives, family time, cooking, baking, playing games, and listening to music, especially Elvis. Jeanette loved her family more than anything and was very proud of them. She was a member of St. Frances Cabrini Parish and her strong Catholic faith and determination helped her navigate the difficult times in her life.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Lorene Marie Haworth in 2014 and Jenifer Christine Schumer in 1963; and three brothers, Albert, Arthur, and Walter Stevens.

She is survived by two sons, Philip G. (wife, Deborah) Schumer of Chatham and David C. (wife, Ellen) Schumer of Bourbonnais, IL; eight grandchildren, Joshua (former spouse, Dawn) Brock, Robert (Gail Turner) Brock, Trevor Haworth, Erin Reed, and Hayden, Maxwell, Nathaniel, and Brady Schumer; five great-grandchildren; three siblings, James Stevens, Anna Graichen, and Thomas Stevens, all of Springfield; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at Butler Funeral Home-Springfield, 900 S. Sixth St., Springfield. Visitation will begin with a vigil prayer service.

Funeral Mass: 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 2, 2021 at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, 1020 North Milton Avenue, Springfield with Rev. Kevin Mann, S.J.C., celebrant. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
