Jeffrey "Jeff" B. Nelson, 58, of Springfield, died at 7:54 a.m. on Wednesday, September 5, 2018, at Havana Health Care Center. Jeff was born April 10, 1960, in Springfield, the son of Charles "Charlie" A., and Annette M. Williams Nelson, Jr. Jeff graduated from Griffin High School in 1978 and earned his bachelors degree from Notre Dame in Mechanical Engineering. He also earned his masters degree from the University of Illinois. He was employed with several institutions, but most recently he taught Math at Lincoln Land Community College and also tutored. Jeff enjoyed playing chess and frisbee golf and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Notre Dame fan. He was preceded in death by his father, Charlie Nelson, Jr. He is survived by his mother, Annette Nelson of Springfield; son, Daniel J. Nelson of KY; brother, Kevin D. (wife, Christa) Nelson of Naperville; niece, Keeley Nelson; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Visitation and Funeral Mass: Family will receive friends from 9:00 - 10:45 a.m. on Monday, September 10, 2018, at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 245 N. Amos Ave., Springfield. A Concelebrated Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Michael Kuse, principal celebrant and Rev. Robert Jallas, concelebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donors choice.
