Jeffrey Robert "Jeff" Payne

Jeff was born on September 11, 1962 in Taylorville, IL, the son of Allen Ray and Clare Ann Wignot Payne.

Jeff was a 1981 graduate of Taylorville High School, where he was a great basketball player. Jeff moved to Springfield with his family in 1986. He loved sports, especially football, baseball, and hockey. His favorite teams to cheer for were the Dallas Cowboys, the Cincinnati Reds, and the St. Louis Blues. Jeff loved riding motorcycles and playing slot machines.

He was preceded in death by his father and grandparents, Bob and Mary Wignot and Laferne Otto.

He is survived by his mother, Clare “Penny” Payne of Springfield; one daughter, Chelsea (husband, Brian) Prost of Seven Hills, OH; two siblings, Cindy (husband, Ed) Weiskopf of Athens and Mike Payne of Springfield; niece, Samantha Jensen; nephew, Michael Payne II; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Cremation will be provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies.

Memorial Gathering and Memorial Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 10:00 until 10:45 a.m. on Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at Butler Funeral Home-Springfield, 900 S. Sixth St., Springfield. A Memorial Ceremony will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Deacon James Dodge officiating. Burial will be held at a later date.
