

Jerry Dale McKay, 43, of Springfield, died at 10:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 1, 2014 at Carlinville Rehab. Jerry was born August 8, 1970 in Springfield, the son of William Leon and Shelby Jean Roberts McKay. Jerry was a 1988 graduate of Charleston High School and received his networking certificate from Lincoln Land Community College. Throughout his life, he held several different jobs including: truck driving, computer network technician, car salesman and farmhand. Jerry had a great sense of humor and a kind heart. He would help anyone that needed it. He also had a great love for Jesus. His children were his most proud accomplishment. He was not afraid of the challenges he faced and made the most of every day. He was a member of Real Life Church and had also played the bass for the gospel group, Glorybound. Some of Jerry's interests included photography, auto racing, and being a first responder and K-9 search and rescue for the Sangamon County Rescue Squad for over 10 years. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his children, Dalton M. McKay and Grace E. McKay, both of Auburn; five siblings, Annette (husband, Perry) J. Warren of Auburn, Carrie (husband, Bret) L. Cloyd and Dwight L. McKay, all of Springfield, Robert (wife, Cheryl) L. McKay of Dexter, MO, and Alan (wife, Paula) W. McKay of Springfield; one grandmother, Lois Roberts of Dexter, MO; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 5:00-8:00 p.m. on Monday, May 5, 2014 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Funeral Ceremony: 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, with Rev. Clint Cook officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.
