

Jo Ann was born on February 12, 1936, in Springfield, the daughter of August E. and Emma K. (Ukrine) Groh. She married William Samuel “Bill” Green, the love of her life, on May 6, 1961, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Pawnee. They were happily married for 49 years and 5 months before he preceded her in death on December 9, 2010.
Jo Ann grew up in Pawnee and attended Pawnee schools. She was employed at Millburg’s Pharmacy before moving to Springfield. Jo Ann was later employed at Bressmer’s, Federated Funeral Directors, and the Teachers’ Retirement System with the State of IL, where she retired after 35 years.
After retirement, Bill and Jo Ann enjoyed traveling around the world being a part of a group and accumulating the most trips along with other friends. They belonged to the Nighthawks Dinner & Dance Club, enjoyed taking cruises, and music and exercise classes with friends.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Betty Jane Groh; one brother, Robert Lee Groh; and sister-in-law, Betty Groh.
She is survived by sister, Donna Groh; two nephews, Donald and David Groh; three nieces, Kathy Greenwalt, Marsha Braddy, and Lisa Groh; five great-nephews; and six great-nieces.
Visitation and Funeral Mass: Friends are welcome from 10:00 until 10:45 a.m. on Tuesday, February 14, 2023, at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 245 North Amos Avenue, Springfield. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Christopher Trummer, celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
