

Joan P. Butler, 87, of Springfield, passed away at 7:52 p.m. on Sunday, February 5, 2022, at Carlinville Area Hospital. She was born in Mattoon, Illinois, on February 28, 1934, the daughter of Everett and Edith (Bombarger) Randall.
Joan graduated from Lanphier H.S. in 1951. She married Richard F. Butler on March 23, 1957. Joan worked for Illinois Bell/Ameritech for 43 years, retiring in 1994. She enjoyed watching old western movies, tending to her flowers, visiting with friends at the Mel-O-Cream Donut shops and reading Louis L’Amour books.
Surviving are her loyal husband, Richard; two children, Brett and Lisa; two sisters, Gloria Gagnon and Anasue Haines, both of Springfield; brother, Michael Randall of Alabama; and many nieces and nephews.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, William and Richard Randall; sisters, Mary “Beth” Miller and Sharon Bailey; and son-in-law, Mark Metzger.
Visitation and Funeral Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:15 a.m. on Monday, February 14, 2022, at Butler Funeral Home – Springfield, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Funeral Ceremony to follow at 11:30 a.m., with Celebrant Judy Woerner officiating. Illinois COVID-19 guidelines will be followed, requiring face coverings. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
