

Joanne Cruthis, 69, of Springfield, died at 12:22 a.m. on April 6, 2006 at St. John’s Hospital. Joanne was born on February 3, 1937 in Taylor Springs, the daughter of Lester Elvin and Elva Pearl Garwood Thacker. She married Guy Russell Devall; they later divorced. She married Donald Cruthis on May 25, 1963 in Bond County; he preceded her in death on June 30, 1988. She was employed in the food service department at VHMI for twenty years and also as a clerk for the State of Illinois for three years. She enjoyed beating everyone at Yahtzee and was also an excellent cook, loved to play Bingo and was an avid reader. Joanne was a fun, joyful and understanding lady who would do anything for anyone. She was also preceded in death by her parents; one brother: Roy Thacker and one sister: Dorothy Merriman. She is survived by one son: Randy (wife, Pam) Devall of Pawnee; two daughters: Rhonda Devall of Springfield and Jodie (husband, Tim) Kelley of Springfield; five grandchildren: Donald Jo “D.J.” Devall; Jason Allen Devall; Christina Danielle Devall; Corie Lee Devall and Matthew Ryan Kelley; two brothers: Bobby (wife, Dot) Thacker of Greenville and Charles (wife, Ada) Thacker of Greenville; two sisters: Jean (husband, Tom) Stewart of Panama and Thelma Lucille Crews of Aurora; ten nieces and seven nephews. Cremation accorded by the Cremation Tribute Center, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. A Memorial Service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, April 10, 2006 at Elm St. Christian Church, 3020 Elm Ave., Springfield. Burial will be at a later date at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
