John was born in Springfield, February 23, 1940, the son of R.V. and Vonda (Armstrong) Brownback. John proudly served in the United States Army. He was a graduate of SIU Carbondale, IL where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. John married Connie White on May 27, 1967 and she survives.
Also surviving are his two daughters; Janice (Mike) Buchele and Debbie (Fred Cable) Reiser, and his three grandchildren: Bryce, Chelsea and Brooke. He has several cousins.
John worked for the State of Illinois Department of Transportation Chemistry Lab, Kyanize Paints, Borden Chemical and Rohm and Hass, and then retired in 2001 from the Borden Chemical Plant near Illiopolis.
He was a member of the Palmyra United Methodist Church, the Elks Club and the Anchor Boat Club. John was an avid Los Angeles Dodger Fan and enjoyed family parties and get togethers at their home.
The Brownback family will host a memorial visitation at Bisch and Son Funeral Home 505 E. Allen St. Springfield, IL. from 9:00 am Saturday, March 7, 2020 until the time of a memorial service at 11:00 am Saturday. Rev. John Chrisler will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorial are suggested to the Palmyra United Methodist Church 109 E. Lewis St. Palmyra, IL 62674
