

John J. Casey, 70, of Springfield, passed away at 6:25 p.m. Monday, November 4, 2002 at Memorial Medical Center. John was born April 19, 1932 in Chicago the son of Thomas B. and Mary K. Lavin Casey. He married Margaret Bradley August 10, 1968 at Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Springfield. John was a graduate of Cathedral Boys High School. He received his Bachelors Degree in Liberal Arts from St. Louis University where he also received his Juris Doctoris in June 1958. He was an Assistant State’s Attorney from 1960-1963 and was elected police magistrate in 1963. He was partner in Casey and Casey P.C. from 1963 until his time of death. Mr. Casey also served as a Public Defender until his retirement in 1997. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church where he served as an usher for many years. He was a former board member at Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA), former member of Island Bay Yacht Club, and a board member for Sangamo Chapter Credit Union. He also coached Catholic Youth Organization Basketball for Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church for many years and enjoyed sailing, softball and basketball. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Edward and Bernard. He is survived by his wife: Margaret of Springfield; one son: John T. (wife, Cate) Casey of Arlington Heights, IL; one daughter: Anne M. (husband, Sean Wallace) Casey of Edwardsville, IL; four brothers: Rev. Thomas Joseph Casey, S.J. of St. Louis, MO, Robert (wife, Phyllis) Casey of Brookfield, IL; James (wife, Betty) Casey of The Woodlands, TX, Richard (wife, Gail) Casey of Aurora, IL; two sisters: Anne Marie (husband, William) Cody of Glendale MO and Margaret Hindman of Springfield; three grandchildren: Olivia and Abigail of Edwardsville, John J. Casey II of Arlington Heights, IL and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may call at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home from 4-8:00 p.m. Thursday, November 7, 2002. Rosary will follow the visitation at 8:00 p.m. Members of the Sangamon County Bar Association will meet at 4:45 p.m. at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home for an Association walk-through. Concelebrated Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 8, 2002 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with Rev. Thomas Joseph Casey. S.J. principal celebrant and Very Rev.
