

John P. 'Jack' Cavanaugh, 79, of Gardnerville, NV, formerly of Springfield, died at 1:34 p.m. Monday, December 13, 2004 at Evergreen Health & Rehabilitation Center in Gardnerville, NV. Jack was born May 19, 1925 in Springfield, the son of Owen T. and Elizabeth Brennan Cavanaugh. He married Catherine Murphy. Mr. Cavanaugh received his Bachelors Degree from the Missouri School of Mines. He was employed as a mining engineer. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army serving from 1943 - 1946. Jack was a member of the Carson Valley Historical Society. He enjoyed and appreciated family and friends. He had an avid interest in history and politics. He loved all animals especially his dog, Mij. He was preceded in death by his son, Barry Patrick Cavanaugh on December 7, 1961 and his parents. He is survived by his wife: Catherine of Gardnerville, NV; son: John (wife, Carolyn) Cavanaugh of Pleasanton, CA; three daughters: Brenda (husband, Edward) Dowd of San Francisco, CA, Karen (husband, Thomas) Giuggio of San Diego, CA, Mary Cavanaugh of Alameda, CA; grandson; Alec Trentler of Alameda, CA and several cousins. The family will receive friends from 10 - 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 21, 2004 at Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 524 E. Lawrence, Springfield. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 21, 2004 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception with Rev. Msgr. John Ossola celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery where the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County will conduct military honors. Memorial contributions may be made to Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception Grade School, 815 S. 6th St. Springfield, IL 62703 or Sacred Heart-Griffin High School, 1200 W.
