

John "Jack" Cosgrove, 82, of Springfield, died peacefully at 12:00 a.m. at his home, surrounded by family, on Friday, October 18, 2013. Jack was born January 24, 1931 in St. Louis, MO, the son of Michael and Mary Jane Slimon Cosgrove. He married Jeanette Stephens on June 12, 1954 in St. Louis, MO; she preceded him in death on September 7, 2008. He was also preceded in death by his parents; one brother, James Cosgrove; and three sisters, Mary "Toodie" Wondracheck, Cathryn Jerrald, and Patricia "Patsy" Lammert. He is survived by two sons, Matthew and Mark Cosgrove, both of Springfield; six daughters, Mary (husband, Thomas) Theilken of Springfield, Christine Cosgrove (companion, Bob Butler) of Bloomington, Jacqueline Cosgrove of Springfield, Patricia Cosgrove (husband, Rick Jett) of Naperville, Theresa Cosgrove of Springfield, and Kathleen (husband, Scott) Knilans of Schaumburg; seven grandsons, Jonathan and Adam Theilken, both of Springfield, Trevor and Tim Knilans, both of Schaumburg, Jackson, Matthew, and Brian Jett, all of Naperville; one sister, Sr. Beth Cosgrove of Brookfield, WI; two sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation: Family will received friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. An additional visitation will be held from 8:30-9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home. Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 2119 N. 20th St., Springfield, with Rev. Clinton Honkomp O.P. officiating. Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center following ceremonies. Private family burial will be held.
