John R. Costello

John R. Costello, 71, of Springfield, passed away at 11:05 a.m. on Monday, January 31, 2011 at Memorial Medical Center. John was born July 17, 1939 in Scott County, IA, the son of John L. and Catherine Grabbe Costello. He married Connie R. Schebler in Long Grove, IA in 1982. John graduated from Dewitt High School, Dewitt, IA in 1957 and later in life went on to attend Lincoln Land Community College. John was a member of the Catholic faith and the Glen Aire Neighborhood Association. He worked in various fields, but always had his heart in farming. John was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Angela Costello; and a sister Pat Kroeger. He is survived by his wife Connie of Springfield; four sons, Justin (Kelly), John T., and James R. Costello, all of Springfield and Jason Costello of Chicago; one daughter, Colleen Tangen of Atlanta, GA; one granddaughter, Katie Tangen of Atlanta, GA; his siblings, Mary (William) Bennett of Davenport, IA, Francis (Elma) Costello of Long Grove, IA, Matthew (Shirley) Costello of Eldridge, IA, Rita (David) Smith of Bonaparte, IA, Sharon (Ted) Spainhower of Preston, IA, and Joe Costello of Davenport, IA; and many nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 4, 2011 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Long Grove, IA. Burial will follow at St. Ann's Cemetery in Long Grove, IA.
