

John O. Hanson, 66, of Rochester, formerly of Riverton, died on Wednesday, June 24, 2009 at St. John's Hospital. John was born on October 18, 1942 in Springfield, the son of Albert Hanson, Sr. and Frances Cox Brickler Hanson Wright. He married Nellie Hohimer in October 27, 1962 in Springfield. John graduated from Williamsville High School where he had been in the FFA. He was employed by Kirby Farm and did a variety of jobs while working with them. He was responsible for managing 2000 swine in confinement, cattle, and a 17, 000 laying hen operation among many other important items. John worked for the State of Illinois and then went to work for Ciota and Foster Meat Packing Plant. He later worked in the maintenance department of Capital Area Career Center and retired after 18 years of service. He was a member of Riverton Christian Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Harley W. Hanson; two sisters, Katherine Gebhardt and Alberta Postal. John is survived by his wife of 46 years, Nellie Hanson of Rochester; his sons, Bryan L. (wife, Gayle) Hanson of Buffalo and Michael L. (wife, Penny) Hanson of Cantrall; four grandchildren, Ashley (Hanson) (husband, Justin) Allgaier of North Carolina, Jon Hanson of Buffalo, Steve and Brad Hanson of Cantrall; two brothers, Kenneth (wife, Violet) Brickler of Springfield and Albert Hanson, Jr.; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Family will receive friends from 5:00-8:00 P.M. on Monday, June 29, 2009, at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. A funeral ceremony will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home with Rev. Frank Lewis officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the Hanson Family Memorial Fund at any National City Branch location.
