John David Lawless

John David Lawless, 41, of Springfield, died at 12:51 p.m. on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at Memorial Medical Center. John was born November 3, 1972 in Springfield, the son of David and Karen (Preckwinkle) Lawless. John was a man with an infectious personality who never met a stranger. While he was an avid fan of dirt car racing, the Chicago Bears and Cubs, his most cherished times were spent with his two sons, Neil and Nick. John also enjoyed traveling, cooking, fishing and spending time outside with his dog, Max. He recently became a member of the Springfield Bowling League. John's compassion for people, positive spirit and ability to bring joy and laughter through a good story is how he will be remembered most. John was a 1990 graduate of Lanphier High School. He was the owner and operator of Lawless Construction and a past member of Carpenters Local #16. John was a loving father, son, brother and friend to many. He was preceded in death by his father, David T. Lawless, on March 12, 2013 and his grandparents, John and June Preckwinkle, Marjorie Ashley Lawless, and Joseph P. Lawless. He is survived by his children, Neil Michael and Nicholas Kane Lawless, both of Mt. Olive; mother, Karen J. Lawless of Springfield; one brother, Ryan (wife, Colleen), niece, Sydney Lawless, all of Springfield; devoted companion, Linda Cole of Springfield. He also leaves a wonderful extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies. Memorial Gathering: Family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, November 22, 2013 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Memorial Ceremony: 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, with Celebrant Judy Woerner officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
