John J. Mikels

John J. Mikels, 95, of Springfield, died at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 1, 2006 at Capitol Care Center. John was born on March 27, 1910 in Christopher, the son of Mike and Ann Zelinkis Mikels. He married Mary V. Erbrederis on May 16, 1943 in Chicago; she preceded him in death on October 17, 1997. John was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church and the Lithuanian/American Club. He retired from the Railway Express Agency where he had been employed as a package handler. He was also preceded in death by one son: Anthony Mikels in 1986; one sister, and three brothers. He is survived by his daughter-in-law: Bernadine Mikels of Springfield; three grandsons: John (wife, Tana) Mikels of Springfield, Joseph Mikels of Stanford, CA and Anthony Mikels, Jr. of Springfield; one granddaughter: Andrea Mikels of Springfield; one brother: Fritz Mikels of Dodgeville, WI; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 5, 2006 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 5:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, March 6, 2006 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 2125 N. 21st. St., Springfield with Rev. Mark Schulte celebrant. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. The family of John J. Mikels is being served by Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield.
