

John W. Montgomery, 85, of Springfield, died at 10:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 13, 2009 at St. Joseph's Home. John was born December 10, 1923 in Mason City, the son of Dono O. and Velma Fern Theobald Montgomery. John was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during WWII. Following his military service, John began working for the USPS as a postal carrier in Mason City. He then went on to work at Springfield Clinic. He eventually became the Administrator and held that position for thirty-five years traveling extensively to study clinical administration and perform accreditation surveys. John was a life member of the Medical Group Management Association and fellow and past president of the American College of Medical Group Administrators. He was a Paul Harris Fellow and past president of the Springfield Rotary Club with 53 years of consecutive membership with perfect attendance. He belonged to the Masonic Greenview Lodge #653, Consistory Shrine, Mason County Farm Bureau, Sangamo Club, Illini Country Club, Union League Club of Chicago and was a past member of the Elks Lodge #158. John was also very active in the First United Methodist Church where he was a member of the IBT Sunday School Class. John had served First United Methodist Church on the finance committee and as a trustee as well as serving on several other committees. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Elsie Swaar, and brother Dohn Montgomery. He is survived by his companion, John Busciacco of Springfield; sister, Pearl (husband, Paul) Rogers of Athens; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to the ceremonies. Memorial gathering will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. on Friday, September 18, 2009 at the First United Methodist Church, 2941 S. Koke Mill, Springfield, IL 62711. Memorial ceremony will begin at 10:30 a.m. with Dr. Roger Ross, Dr. Bob Swickard, and Rev. Vince Rohn officiating. Graveside ceremony will be at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, September 18, 2009 at Mason City Cemetery with Rev. William Swaar officiating.
