

John E. Rimkus, 78, of Springfield, passed away at 12:50 a.m. on Friday, July 29, 2011 at St. John's Hospital. John was born April 6, 1933 in Divernon, the son of Anthony Joseph and Helen B. Zimmerli Rimkus. He married Charlene Bale on April 17, 1955 in Glenarm. John graduated from Lanphier High School and received his associate's degree from the U of I in Aeronautical Engineering. He worked for the State of Illinois and was a member of the Tyrian Masonic Lodge #333. He was also a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. John enjoyed hunting, fishing in Canada, and sailing. He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Richard Eugene Rimkus. He is survived by his wife, Charlene Rimkus of Springfield, two sons, Anthony (Renata) Rimkus of Springfield and Victor (Linda) Rimkus of Albuquerque, NM; four grandchildren, Jeremiah, Trisha, Rebekah and Nathan Wayne Rimkus; sister, Barbara Dirksen of Springfield; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Monday, August 1, 2011 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Funeral Ceremony: 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 2, 2011 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, with David Anderson officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
