
John M. Tallman, 75, of Rochester, passed away at 11:37 a.m., Thursday, July 19, 2001 at his residence. He was born June 8, 1926 in Colorado Springs, CO, the son of John and Ione Benson Tallman who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his two sisters: Caroline Tallman Miller and Ruth Tallman Mueller. He married Barbara Markel on June 14, 1947 in the Congregational Church in Carpentersville, IL. Mr. Tallman graduated from Northwestern University with a B.S. in Commerce, and later from the University of Wisconsin School of Banking. He was employed by Peabody Coal Company as an Accountant for five years, and by the Marine Bank of Springfield (now Bank One) for thirty-one years retiring in 1986 as a Vice-President. He served in World War II as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Infantry, with service in the Battle of the Philippines and later in the Occupation ARMY of Japan. He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans and Veterans of Foreign Wars as well as the American Legion. Mr. Tallman was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Past- President of the Springfield Ski and Boat Club, and Past Treasurer of Island Bay Yacht Club. He was active in the American Business Club, the Junior Chamber of Commerce, the Elks Club, and the Sangamo Club. He was a member of Memorial Gardens, Nature Conservancy, Audubon, and Friends of the Rochester Library. He is survived by his wife: Barbara; two daughters: Linda (husband, David) Searcy of Springfield, and Janet (husband, Scott) Davy of Farmington, New Mexico; two sisters: Jean (husband, Kenneth) Anselment of Port St. Lucie, FL, and Thora Burgess of Lynnwood, WA; three grandchildren: Daron and Renee Searcy and Sean Davy; and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home on Sunday, July 22, 2001 from 3-6 p.m. Funeral Service will be at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home at 11 a.m., Monday, July 23, 2001 with the Rev.
