

John C. Vogt Jr., 65, of Girard, died on the morning of Monday, August 27, 2012 at his home. John was born May 4, 1947 in Jacksonville, the son of John C. and Luella Shanle Vogt. He married Karen Hammel on November 21, 1970 in Beardstown, later divorced. John was a graduate of New Berlin High School and Springfield College. He proudly served our country in the Air National Guard from 1968-1972. John was employed at UPS for 27 years and attained 25 years of safe driving. He also worked for Brandts Fertilizer for over 5 years. John was a part of the Eagle's Club, Springfield Bass Club, and Mathers Gun Club. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting, farming, mowing, and taking rides in his yellow Corvette. After retirement, cooking and baking became a passion he loved to share with others. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his two daughters, Jennifer L. (husband, Travis) Foster of Springfield and Jamie L. (husband, Bryan) Thomas of Franklin, TN; one grandchild, Skye L. Foster; two sisters, Bonnie L. Vogt of Springfield and Mary L. (husband, Bob) Stake of Paso Robles, CA; one brother, Bill E. Vogt of Springfield; one nephew, Josh C. Locker; and many cousins. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 30, 2012 at McCullough-Delaney & Butler Funeral Home, 714 E. Gibson St., New Berlin. Funeral Ceremony: 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 31, 2012 at McCullough-Delaney & Butler Funeral Home, with Rev. John R. Ossola officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery.
