

John was born November 20, 1940 in Springfield, the son of John E. Wheeling, Sr. and Teresa C. Hesse Wheeling. He married Roseadelle Pedrucci on May 20, 1967 in Springfield; she preceded him in death on January 4, 2013.
John was a graduate of Lanphier High School and proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He was a plank owner of the U.S.S. Enterprise, serving during the ship's first active deployment. He was a member of Iron Workers Local 46 for 27 years, retiring in 1995. A member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, he was a 3rd Degree Knight of Columbus, Council 364, and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #437. John was an avid camper, and enjoyed being with his friends he met while camping. Most of all, he enjoyed being with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Carole Greitens.
He is survived by two sons, Raymond (wife, Karen) Wheeling of Scottsdale, AZ and Brian (wife, Laura) Wheeling of Mt. Zion; one daughter, Colleen Wheeling of Chicago; three grandchildren, Hannah, Megan and Adam Wheeling; one sister, Ceil (husband, Ray) Whitt of Huntsville, AL; one cousin-in-law, Rosalie Beck; and three nieces and two nephews.
Visitation: Family will receive friends from 9:30 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1345 N. 6th St., Springfield.
Funeral Mass: 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with Rev. Steven Janoski, celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
