

Joseph H. Beall, 80, of Springfield, passed away at 1:03 a.m. Friday, November 29, 2002 at his residence. Joseph was born January 11, 1922 in Mattoon the son of J. Paul and Margaret Mary Clavan Beall. He married Estella L. Dasenbrock December 20, 1944 at St. Frances Church in Teutopolis, IL. Joseph was a graduate from Mattoon Senior High School and a graduate of St. Joseph College in Rensselaer, IN. He was employed by the State of Illinois Department of Mental Health as an accountant, retiring in 1983 after 21 years of service. He joined the Army Air Crops in August 1942 and graduated from Navigation School January 31, 1944. He served in England from May 6, 1944 to December 12, 1944. He was discharged November 30, 1945. He flew 33 contact missions and received an Air Medal with four oak leaf clusters, Distinguished Flying Cross and a Presidential Citation with two oak leaf clusters. He was a member of Christ the King Parish, Holy Name Society, Knights of Columbus Council #364, Retired Officers Association, Night Hawks Dance Club and a life member of the 34th Bombers Group H Association. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife: Estella of Springfield; two sons: Robert W. (wife, Diane) Beall of Wilson, N.C., Joseph P. (wife, Rebecca) Beall of Effingham, IL; three daughters: Sharon M. Beall of Springfield, Kathleen M. (husband, John) Pfeiffer of New Lenox, IL, Virginia M. Beall of Friday Harbor, WA, two brothers: John P. (wife, Roberta) Beall of Springfield, Robert L. Beall of Mattoon; two sisters: Mary C. Beall of Mattoon, Martha Franz of Bloomington; nine granddaughters; one great grandson; two great granddaughters and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may call at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home from 3-6:00 p.m. Sunday, December 1, 2002 with a Rosary at 6:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Monday, December 2, 2002 at Christ the King Catholic Church with Rev. Msgr David S. Lantz celebrant. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County will conduct military honors.
