

Joseph L. Greer, 82, of Rochester, died at 2:50 p.m. on Thursday, June 28, 2007 at Oak Terrace Healthcare Center. Joseph was born on July 5, 1924 in Centerville, IL, the son of Alfred and Lillie Causey Greer. He married Doris J. Minikin on April 11, 1969 in Bloomington. He was a WWII U.S. Marine Corps Veteran. He was a member of AF & AM Masonic Lodge 4, Ansar Shrine in Springfield, Scottish Rite, Past-President of the Capital City Shrine Club, Past Director Ansar Director Staff, Past Director of Royal Order of Jesters Court 20, Elks Lodge 158, and DAV Hall Hagler Chapter 15. His hobbies included hunting, fishing and being with his family and friends. Joseph owned and operated L. Rose Company selling and distributing industrial chemicals and equipment for over thirty-five years. He was preceded in death by one grandson, Brian Woltz; parents and three brothers: Charles, Dean and Weston. Surviving are his wife of thirty-eight years, Doris J. Greer; one daughter, Dawn Renee Greer of Springfield; one step-daughter, Linda R. Woltz of Dawson; one granddaughter, Melanie S. Pozsgai and several nieces, nephews and cousins and several great nieces and great nephews. The family welcome friends to visit from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., on Sunday, July 1, 2007 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield. Masonic rites will be held at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Ceremonies will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 2, 2007 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home with Rev. Gary Winkleman officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery with military honors provided by the Department of Defense and the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County.
