

Joseph Dale Koehl, 74, of Sherman, passed away at 8:40 a.m. on June 19, 2012 at his home. Joseph was born on February 16, 1938 in Shelby County. He was adopted by Joseph and Lula Rourk Koehl at age 3. He married Mary Ann Tisckos on April 30, 1960 at St. Joseph's Church. Joseph attended Cathedral Boys High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Army between the Korea and Vietnam Wars as a telephone communications specialist. He was employed by St. John's Hospital for 24 years as the business office manager and then worked for several years at National City Bank in the collections department. Joe was a member of St. John Vianney Parish. He was a former member of St. Joseph Parish and board member at Heartland Credit Union. Joseph was known for being a loving person, a great husband, father, and grandpa. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was very handy and enjoyed woodworking, photography, animals, and being outdoors. He was preceded in death by his biological parents, Ellis Crouch and Dorothy Anderson, and by his adoptive parents. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Koehl, of Sherman; children, Kathy Brown of Birchwood, TN, Jim (wife, Anne-Marie) Koehl of Cornland, IL, and Patty (husband, Ed) Sklenka of Raleigh, NC; four grandchildren, Second Lieutenant USAF Emily Brown of Pensacola, FL, Reid Brown of Birchwood, TN, and Lily and Sam Koehl, both of Cornland, IL; and mother-in-law, Bernice Tisckos of the Villas at Sherman. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 24, 2012 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. Funeral Mass: 9:30 a.m. on Monday, June 25, 2012 at St. John Vianney Parish, 902 Saint John Dr., Sherman with Rev. Msgr. Carl A. Kemme, V.G., celebrant. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
